17 May/June 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN 7 8: KING OF PRUSSIA OFFICE Jeff Huber, district manager (pictured on left), and Timothy Marino, sales arborist (pictured on right), visited Price Elementary School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where Marino's daughter, Joelle, is a teacher. They spoke to 40 fourth-grade students about the importance of trees to the environment during an Arbor Day lesson. The students were dubbed honorary spotted lanternfly "Davey Deputies" after learning about the impact of that invasive species. 9: NORTH PHILADELPHIA OFFICE Rick Close, business developer, Davey Business Development Team (pictured at the booth), attended Whitemarsh Township Day at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School's Victory Fields in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania on Earth Day. The event featured nearly 90 vendors, games, inflatable attractions, and a petting zoo. Close spoke to attendees about spotted lanternfly control methods, and proper tree planting. Shane Farrell, sales arborist, attended Newtown, Pennsylvania's Arbor Day at Brian Gregg Memorial Park. Farrell spoke to Goodnoe Elementary School first and fifth grade students about how trees grow, counting tree rings, and gave away tree seedlings. Chris Marshall, sales arborist, attended Delaware Valley University's A-Day in Doylestown, Pennsylvania over Earth Day weekend. Marshall ran a touch-a-truck event. He also distributed sunflower seeds and a mix of 100 white spruce and chinkapin oak tree seedlings. In Amber, Pennsylvania, Pete Williams, sales arborist, ran a Davey booth and gave away white dogwood and white pine tree seedlings at Ambler Environmental Advisory Council's Earth Fest 2023. 7: NEEDHAM OFFICE In March, the Needham office celebrated Arbor Day early by pruning deadwood and inspecting the canopy, existing cables, and braces of the historic Station Oak tree. The more than 150-year-old black oak tree stands across from Wellesley Free Library in Wellesley, Massachusetts. In April, pictured from left, Needham office employees Tyler Ledin, sales arborist; Steve Kendall, district manager; Brad Gould, sales arborist; George Barth, assistant district manager; Matt Stobbart, sales arborist; James Willey, assistant district manager; Dan Cohen, assistant district manager; and Charles Goodfriend, sales arborist, celebrated Arbor Day by helping with trail maintenance at Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, Massachusetts. 11: SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE About 50 fourth graders from Laurel Elementary School planted 12 trees for Arbor Day, including four Deodar cedar, three Atlas cedar, and five strawberry trees. The students were led by Adam Jensen, district manager, and Michael Hyatt, assistant district manager, and City of San Mateo's managing arborist Matthew Fried (pictured). 12: SOUTHEAST NASHVILLE OFFICE In Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Rob Kraker, district manager (pictured), showed Discovery School elementary school students how to plant a tree for Arbor Day. Kraker gave away 60 trees with planting instructions to students. Stephen McLaren, sales arborist, and Shannon Turner, client experience coordinator, helped organize the event. 10: NORTH PITTSBURGH OFFICE Rob Kruljac, assistant district manager, and Luke Werner, district manager, removed hazard trees around the maintenance and office buildings of the Flight 93 National Memorial site in Stoystown, Pennsylvania for Arbor Day. The day of service was organized by Friends of Flight 93, recognized by the National Park Service as the memorial's official nonprofit organization. 13: STAMFORD OFFICE Trimmers David Aquino, Angel Perez (pictured from left wearing yellow hardhats), and Eduardo Sanchez, planted trees in Lione Park with City of Stamford, Connecticut employees during the city's Arbor Day event in April. In May, Jeremiah Green, district manager, and John Nestro, sales arborist, hosted a Davey booth at the Rowayton Gardeners' "Spring Market at the Potting Shed" fundraising event in Rowayton, Connecticut. They gave away white oak tree seedlings and raffled off a pink flowering dogwood tree. Green also attended an event at All Things Beautiful, a homeschool co-op in Stamford. He spoke to 55 students, ages 3- to 14-years old, about Arbor Day and tree benefits, and gave away white oak tree seedlings. 11 9 6: EAST, NORTHEAST CLEVELAND OFFICES Nick Stutzman, district manager, Northeast Cleveland office (pictured on left), and Tedd Bartlett, district manager, East Cleveland office (pictured right), planted native sycamore, oak, and maple trees at Geauga Park District's (GPD) Earth Day celebration at Veterans Legacy Woods, a 180-acre park. The site, in Newbury Township, Ohio, is a former golf course, and the planting was part of GPD's 1,000 Trees Earth Day reforestation initiative.
