22 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2022 LEADERSHIP PLANTING THE SEED EXPANDS MANAGEMENT SKILLS Seventeen Eastern Utility employees took part in a recent session of the Planting the SEED leadership development program, spanning four months. The group met virtually several times, both as a full group and with their peer coaching groups, leading up to the four-day in-person training, led by facilitator Mike Testa, president, Pursuing What Matters. Autumn Dickerson, talent and client experience specialist, Eastern Utility, said the program focuses on helping managers become courageous leaders, hone the craft of leadership, and build a pipeline for future leaders. Attendees are selected based on recommendations by senior leadership. Topics included leadership dialogue, peer coaching, celebrating the creative, connections, goal setting, and more. "The Planting the SEED program made me rethink my role as a leader and opened up my mind to additional ways of approaching leadership," said Tyler Alley, general foreman, Eastern Utility Rail Division. "The program doesn't just focus on upper management. It emphasizes all levels of management. I am very appreciative for the opportunity to attend this session." Planting the SEED attendees included: Tyler Alley, Juan Avalos, Mark Bradshaw, Ronald Burton, Jeff Delaune, Jason Guthrie, Corey Heck, Josh Hutton, Bob Jones Jr., Chris Lemasters, Israel Martinez, Adam McPeek, Marc Sargent, Todd Sedivy, Mark Solada, Jeff Thornton and Shane Williams. UTILITY ARBORIST ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZES EMPLOYEES A volunteer-led organization, the Utility Arborist Association (UAA), its members and their employers, are committed to providing professional utility arboricultural services to the public. Three Davey employees won awards at the UAA Awards Lunch at the Trees & Utilities Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tim Walsh, health and safety director, and UAA's president, received the Will Nutter Silver Shield Award. The Will Nutter Silver Shield Award is given to a person on the front line of safety, in honor of the late Will Nutter, former UAA Safety Committee Chair. Jim Neeser, project developer, Davey Resource Group (DRG), Utility Vegetation Management services (UVM), and UAA's treasurer, received the President's Award. The President's Award is awarded to individuals who assisted the outgoing president or industry in extraordinary ways. Paul Hurysz, manager, human performance safety consulting services, DRG, received the Exiting Past President Award. Davey and DRG earned a silver PinE (Partners in Excellence) Award. The PinE Award is given to companies that go above and beyond to support UAA's success.
