23 November/December 2022 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN WORKSHOP BRINGS WOMEN OF DAVEY TOGETHER Residential/Commercial (R/C) services and Davey Resource Group employees took part in a second annual workshop for women employees. Organized by the R/C services North Central Operating Group, the three day event was held at Mount Olivet Conference & Retreat Center in Farmington, Minnesota. Tiffany Barnett, PHC coordinator, Lake Bluff office, said she loves the fact that the conference brought many women of Davey together. "It was a sense of community that some women might not get in a male-dominated field. In the short amount of time, we bonded over our love of trees and tree care. I saw women that were in corporate, the safety department, sales arborists, crew leaders, and climbing trainers. It was great seeing that women can advance in this company and be extremely successful in whatever they want to do," Barnett said. Barnett explained the event wasn't just about climbing. "It was so much more. There was at least one person who was extremely knowledgeable in any aspect of tree care. As someone who is not a climber, there were tons of other options that I could learn about. I was able to attend talks about common pests and disease, tree risk assessment, healthy tree pruning, and even one about the mental health benefits that Davey offers," Barnett added. Hannah Underwood, trimmer, Portland office, said it's really important for women in arboriculture to connect in person because it can sometimes feel isolating to be a woman in this field. "It was also really amazing how many people stepped up to lead and teach, while still being able to learn from each other," Underwood said.
