12 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2022 SAFETY FIRE PREVENTION TRAINING FOCUS OF ANNUAL MEETING The agenda for the 2022 Davey Tree Surgery Company Annual Fire Meeting in April included an outlook for this fire season's precipitation conditions, operations updates on Surgery Company accounts including PG&E, insurance and liability strategies, and regional operations updates. Managers from across the Davey Tree Surgery Company gathered on Microsoft Teams ® in April to discuss fire prevention training and how it relates to the Davey Company's core values. The meeting approached fire prevention at the Surgery Company from two directions. One angle focused on what field employees do daily to practice fire prevention and safety. The second angle emphasized what resources are available both at the Livermore and corporate offices to support employees in regard to fire-related issues. Larry Evans, executive vice president and general manager, the Davey Tree Surgery Company, said this year's virtual meeting was an internal gathering open only to employees. He is hopeful in 2023 the annual fire meeting will return to an in-person setting that will include inviting representatives from Davey utility clients, as has been done in the past. "Our jobs right now really are about preventing fires, protecting our communities and the company," Evans said. "We are stewards of the environment in every sense of the word, particularly when it comes to fire prevention." TRIM helps communities in need fund tree inventories, with the removal or pruning of hazardous trees, and with the conservation of trees and forests. Davey's St. Louis R/C office recently partnered with Bellefontaine Neighbors Parks and Recreation Department, which was the recipient of a TRIM grant. "I met with Jimmy Kirincich, director, Bellefontaine Neighbors Parks and Recreation Department, and his staff, and we identified 11 hazardous trees within their eight parks. One additional tree needed pruning. Most of the trees were large oaks," said Kyle Carevic, assistant district manager, St. Louis office. Over a two-week period in February, crews from the St. Louis office completed the tree work, battling cold, icy conditions. "The Parks team was fantastic to work with throughout the project. One morning, a parking lot we were using was a sheet of ice. Kirincich called in the street department at a moment's notice to salt the lot," Carevic said.
