Hazard trees at the Lucia S. Nash Nature Preserve in Burton,
Ohio, found new purpose thanks to the East Cleveland
R/C office's efforts.
After losing many trees to emerald ash borer, the Ohio
chapter of The Nature Conservatory, which manages the
preserve, contracted Davey to make the entrance to the
park safer while increasing the diversity of wildlife.
"They are very conservation-minded with the types of
projects they do, so they wanted everything we touched
to stay on the property," said Heath Greene, sales arborist.
Dead or dying ash had their tops removed at 20 feet and
higher, where it was safe to do so, and the removal debris
was pushed back into the woods. This made potential habitat
for ground-dwelling animals, as well as woodpeckers and
insects.
The project was completed in late February, successfully
addressing the safety concerns before the park reopened to
the public in April.
Congratulations to Davey's 2021 TCIA
Safety Award winners! More details
are posted on DaveyConnect.
Employees can be nominated for
TCIA safety awards to recognize an
act of using safety precautions to
prevent a serious accident. Those
who teach a fellow crew member to
do something in a safer way can also
be nominated. To nominate someone,
