30 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2022 Dan Fisk, right, was awarded the 2022 International Erosion Control Association's (IECA) Outstanding Professional Award at the IECA Annual Conference & Expo. This award recognizes members who demonstrate excellence and are viewed as industry leaders. IECA is a non-profit that provides education, resources and business opportunities for erosion, sediment control and stormwater professionals. Fisk is the environmental compliance manager, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), a Davey company. Congratulations, Dan! Jed Day received the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater Stephen F. Austin (SFA) State University's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture. Day said it was an honor to receive this award. Day has a track record of recruiting and hiring SFA graduates. "We currently have at least a half dozen or so alums working throughout the Texas market and elsewhere," he said. Day (left) is pictured with Dr. Hans Williams, dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, and Steven Harvey, recipient of the Jed Day Distinguished Alumni Scholarship. The scholarship recognized a former student who has been successful in their chosen career in forestry. Day is executive vice president and general manager, U.S. Residential/Commercial services. Congrats, Jed! 1. When did you start at Davey, and what was your role? I started my career at Davey on May 4, 1992, as a groundperson in the Toronto area. 2. What is your current title and responsibilities? I'm a district manager. We've grown the territory considerably over the years and have a strong, dependable team to help look after our operations. 3. What is one of your most memorable projects you've been a part of? One of the most memorable projects we've contributed to would have to be the major ice storm that hit Toronto and the surrounding cities a few years back. Thanks to our team we were able to provide service to our customers right through Christmas and New Year's. 4. Who is someone at Davey who has had a significant impact on your career? I can honestly say I've been very fortunate to have several individuals who have impacted my career at Davey in a very supportive way. One that always comes to mind is David Tonigussi, who is currently district manager, Mississauga office. I was fortunate to spend a few years very early in my career with Dave. That experience led me to where I am today. GET TO KNOW… TIM HOLLEY Tim Holley district manager, London office Sam Heywood passed his International Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) Board Certified Master Arborist ® exam. This credential is the highest level of certification offered by ISA. Heywood is a project manager, Davey Resource Group, Environmental Consulting, based in Texas. Congratulations, Sam! IN THE SPOTLIGHT Dr. R.J. Laverne received the Ohio Chapter International Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) Award of Merit. The Award of Merit is the highest honor the Ohio Chapter ISA bestows. This award recognizes an individual who advances the principles, ideals and practices of arboriculture. Laverne is the manager of education and training, Davey Institute. Congratulations, R.J.! Kara Mayle was elected to serve as vice president of the board of directors for Saluting Branches: Arborists United for Veteran Remembrance. Saluting Branches organizes a national day-of-service for arborists to improve veterans cemeteries. Mayle is a senior project manager, corporate communications. Congratulations, Kara!
