54 COMPLETE SAFETY MANAGEMENT TRAINING
In 2021, 54 employees attended
two virtual sessions of the Davey
Core Safety Management (DCSM)
program, hosted by the corporate
safety department. DCSM is a two-
day, Microsoft Teams-based training
program geared toward helping
management-level employees learn
more about corporate safety policies,
healthy workplace systems and
work procedures.
The program was adopted from the
in-person Safety Leadership Training
Program in 2020 and modified due
to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021
sessions were held in late February
for the western region and in mid-
March for the southern region.
"With the initial success of the virtual
program last year, we were able to
increase the number of participants
from each service line and are looking
to make this program available on the
Davey Learning Management System
(LMS) in the future," said Jon Schmidt,
regional safety specialist.
A pre-job safety meeting can identify major
safety concerns before crews begin work
on a property.

their crews were able to reach this milestone.
"Bobby Burgin and myself have been with the group from
the start of this as well as Louie Geasland, our regional
safety specialist for the area," Tolley said. "Doug Newton,
our area manager, has been influential in keeping this going
and making sure we have people in place with a positive
safety mindset."
