STANLEY MCPEEK, SUPERVISOR,
BRIGHT RIDGE ACCOUNT (WOLF TREE)
Q: What does safety mean to you?
A: Safety is everything. I've always been big on safety, so
it's in everything I do. I encourage my crews to remember
the small things, like walking on site and being aware of
your surroundings. Safety should always come first. I'm
always wanting to better myself, and now I spend time
looking at different ways to improve myself and my team.
Being safe means that we can keep improving and have
an opportunity to follow our ambition to move ahead.
ANDRE ARCHULETA, OPERATIONS
MANAGER, CLS WEST COAST OPERATIONS
Q: What does safety mean to you?
A: Safety is about taking the time to recognize and
identify any hazards related to the work we're conducting
and our surrounding areas (work zone). This includes
taking the appropriate actions to correct any issues
identified to protect yourself, co-workers, family and
friends. Our goal is to ensure everyone goes home safely!
ANDREW KRAUSE, ASSISTANT DISTRICT
MANAGER, CRYSTAL LAKE OFFICE
Q: What did you learn at DPE that was most
applicable to your daily tasks?
A: I learned how to assess safety on jobsites with a more
analytical view. Taking the time during the point of inspection
and sale to set up our lines of defense to avoid incidents.
Looking for potential problems and figuring out ways to
mitigate them well before we send a crew out to work.
CHRISTOPHER TAYLOR, SALES ARBORIST,
WEST CLEVELAND OFFICE
Q: What did you learn at DPE that was most
applicable to your daily tasks?
A: There is always room for improvement when it comes
to safety. It starts with me and how I communicate with
my team. Attention to detail and helping my crew with
identification of obstacles and hazards will help continue
my growth of safety knowledge as well as my team's.
Safety is not just a Friday morning meeting; it is an
everyday topic of discussion.
DAVEY PERSONAL EXCELLENCE IN 2021
SAFETY
Davey's corporate safety team conducted a Davey Personal Excellence (DPE) seminar virtually in January. Thirty employees
logged on for the two-day workshop, led by Jon Schmidt, regional safety specialist. DPE is an organizational strategy
addressing safety and business effectiveness while reinforcing Davey safety principles. A second event is set for July.
