In March, a crew from Davey's Naperville and Glen Ellyn R/C
offices joined seven other tree care companies at the Illinois
Arborist Association's (IAA) Day of Service, cutting down and
trimming more than 200 trees. The event was held at the
Farnsworth House, a National Historic Landmark located on
a 60-acre wooded estate just Southwest of Chicago.
The estate features mostly ash trees, and where there's ash,
there's Emerald Ash Borer. Charles Shonts, district manager,
Naperville office, said bucket trucks could not be used on the
grounds, so the IAA asked for Davey specifically because of
In total, an estimated $60,000 in work was donated this year.
Last year, donated work performed at the same property totaled
more than $40,000.
REMOVING ASH FOR HISTORIC FARNSWORTH HOUSE
Davey's track record with skilled, safe climbing. Most of the
ash trees were removed, but climbers had to cut back limbs
dangling over the nearby Fox River as well.
"This is an important property in a community we serve.
Thousands of people visit each year, so we wanted to make
sure it was safe for everyone in the future," Shonts said.
