TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ARBORISTS
An annual training course aimed at promoting the
arboriculture industry and safety techniques may have
opened some new eyes of possible Davey arborists in
Southern Illinois University's forestry program. The
required class often proves enlightening for students and
industry instructors.
"We stay constantly engaged with the students because
Davey offers a reliable place for employment. There are
many more career routes available that they realize," said
Brian Borkowicz, project developer, National Business
Development Team.
The training program, hosted by the Illinois Arborist
Association, also is an opportunity for industry leaders
to explain different paths within the treecare industry.
Charles Shonts, district manager, Naperville R/C, and
Andrew Krause, assistant district manager, Crystal Lake
R/C, also volunteered at the event.
Students from Southern Illinois University's forestry program gain
hands-on experience with Stihl chainsaws, Vermeer chippers and
more during an annual training.
CLIMBING HIGH IN MINNESOTA
Davey Tree was the primary sponsor of the Minnesota Society of Arboriculture's
2019 Tree Climbing Competition. This year, all four residential offices near
Minneapolis pitched in.
District managers – Justin Bence, North Minneapolis; Travis McDonald, South
Minneapolis; Michael Dye, South St. Paul; and Ryan Brick, Maier Tree, all spent
time at the event, along with others from their offices.
"We always have a very strong presence at this competition. All four offices
contribute equally to make sure Davey Tree is the top corporate sponsor for the
event, and maintains a presence of volunteers and competitors," Bence said.
