DAVEY COMES TOGETHER FOR AN EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
Davey celebrated Earth Day in a big way this year with
Woodlawn Cemetery. Located in The Bronx, New York,
Woodlawn hosted an Earth Day event for over 300 children
in grades three through five from area public schools. The
children participated in several different environmental
events and workshops put on by staff at Woodlawn and
Davey employees, including a children's climb, tree
identification walks, planting demonstrations, craft stations
and more.
Davey has been involved in this event for the past three
years, but this year's participation was a little different.
"This was the first year Woodlawn has opened the event
up to local public schools, so we decided to ramp up our
participation as well," said Herb Landmann, project manager,
National Business Development Team. "We added another
kids' climb station to the event, and it was the big highlight
of the event for the kids."
Additionally, Davey held a tree, shrub, perennial and
annual planting demonstration and led the tree identification
walks for the children. A total of 11 Davey employees
from several different business segments and the safety
department participated in the event.

with child-sized climbing saddles. With more than 100 children trying
their hand at climbing, the station was very popular.

of children on tree identification walks around the Woodlawn property.
ARBOR DAY
"The day went really well, and the client was very happy
with Davey's collective participation," Landmann said.
Woodlawn has multiple Davey service lines currently
working on the property. Commercial Landscape Services
performs grounds maintenance and planting services. The
Care of Trees Mt. Vernon and Long Island Residential/
Commercial offices perform tree care services. Davey
Resource Group and the National Business Development
Team perform arboricultural consulting support services.
And the Davey Institute performs Turf Growth Regulator
tests and Automower
®
demonstrations.
"This event took significant coordination and resources
on our end," Landmann said. "Overall, we donated about
120 hours of Davey's time to this event, but it's a great
event and well worth it for the long-term relationship
with our client."
