7 November/December 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN INVESTING IN WESTERN MANAGERS Davey Tree Surgery Company held a three-day boot camp style training for new general foremen and those newly appointed to supervisor roles on the PG&E accounts. The intent of the boot camp training was to give them basic skills and knowledge of daily operations, financial aspects of the business and leadership development, said Kevin Peters, vice president of operations. Attendees were able to see the vision and direction for Davey Surgery from the executive team. "We want to invest in people, so they have the right tools and skill sets to engage employees," Peters said. "They were blown away by the attention we were giving them and the investment we were making into each employee. Our up-and-coming general foremen and supervisors are the future for Davey." The theme of the training was centered on the surgery company's 2018 priorities, which included improving safety, increasing employee retention and improving productivity and performance. Peters said attendees were challenged to think about how they could help utility operations with these priorities stepping into their new roles. "The meeting wasn't about what are we going to do today to get better," Peters said. "It was really about investing in these folks because they are the future of the company. Just seeing the faces of the future and future leaders was really energizing." The Davey Tree Surgery Company intends to continue holding these trainings on an annual basis with other regions. Attendees included: Matt Place, general foreman, Sierra account; Josh Shawles, general forman, Sierra account; Casey Barker, supervisor, Santa Rosa account; Ez Hernandez, supervisor, Santa Rosa account; James Francovich, supervisor, North Bay account; Julius Uehlein, general foreman, North Bay account; Ryan Means, general foreman, Los Padres account; Jake Simon, general foreman, Southern Coast account; Guadalupe Maldonado, general foreman, Los Padres account;Jaime Buenrostro, general foreman, Silverado account; Raul Rios, supervisor, Southern Coast account; Ben Johnson, supervisor, Southern Coast account; Damon Wojciechowski, general foreman, Sierra account.
