19 November/December 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN 'TREE OF LIFE' PROGRAM MEMORIALIZES LOVED ONES Davey partnered with longtime Commercial Landscape Services (CLS) client Akron Children's Hospital to plant three trees as part of the Tree of Life program. The trees, each planted through a $1,000 donation, memorialized loved ones that have passed. "Davey Tree has been a long-time valued partner of Akron Children's Hospital," said Machelle Syx, corporate alliance program manager for Akron Children's Hospital. "The Tree of Life Program is a unique blend of Akron Children's and Davey Tree's missions and was created in an effort to support the hospital and families that we serve. This program has allowed individuals to give back to the hospital while also creating a lasting tribute to a loved one. Without the support of the community and corporations such as Davey Tree, the services and programs provided by Akron Children's Hospital would not be possible." The three trees were planted by the Cleveland East CLS territory this August at a residence, Barlow Farm Park in Hudson, Ohio, and Fort Island Park in Akron, Ohio. Akron Children's Hospital, a long-time CLS client, has partnered with Davey on a memorial tree program. GROWING A COMMUNITY CANOPY Making room for new trees by grinding stumps was the name of the game for Davey's South Baltimore R/C office as they participated in the 2018 TreeUp event. In an effort to green the streets of the Federal Hill South neighborhood, Davey was asked to help identify and remove dead street trees and to grind out existing stumps in tree pits to allow the community to easily and effectively plant new trees. The community received trees for planting but did not have access to the equipment or skills to make the space available for these new plants.
