21 May/June 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN In celebration of Arbor Day, Davey partnered with Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC) to plant 41 trees at Carrie Cain Park in Cleveland, Ohio. Pictured are three Davey Resource Group's (DRG) Environmental Consulting (EC) employees, along with eight employees from Davey's Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee, who joined Davey's corporate communications team and WRLC staff at this event. Davey was the presenting sponsor of the Cleveland Guardians' Earth Week and hosted an "Ask the Arborist" booth at Progressive Field on April 24 at a Guardians' game, with two employees from the Northeast Cleveland office, alongside the corporate communications team. The "Swing for the Trees" program has made a return for a second season where each home run earned will equal one tree to plant. Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate communications and strategic planning, was a guest on CORPORATE 1: DRG ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING SERVICES The Northwest Indiana Tree Planting Consortium and nonprofit Delta Institute hosted Aren Flint, senior associate consultant, who presented a complimentary online tree planting and maintenance training session on Earth Day. She discussed topics such as tree planting techniques, pruning, soil care and nutrition, pest and disease management, and defect observation and mitigation. Flint also held a Q&A session at the end of the webinar. The event was sponsored by Lee County Electric Cooperative in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day to help restore Cape Coral's urban forest canopy. They also planted shrubs and flowers, which included saw palmetto, Indian blanket, wild coffee, firebush, and more. 4: WETLAND STUDIES AND SOLUTIONS, INC., A DAVEY COMPANY Twenty-nine team members from all seven offices of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., along with family members, helped pick up and properly dispose of trash from parks, neighborhoods, bike trails, work sites, the shore, and the woods, across Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia for their annual Earth Day Cleanup event. 1 2 3 4 3: Through the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) Sustainable Tree Program, UVM technicians Nathan Davila (on the right) and Annabel Rossi (left) sourced 10 Tecate cypress trees to give away at lipay Nation of Santa Ysabel's Tribal Earth Day celebration. They provided tree care information to individuals who expressed their interest in fostering the growth of trees on their land. In addition, DRG sourced 50 Brisbane box trees through SDG&E's Sustainable Tree Program, which were planted along Jimmy Durante Blvd. in Del Mar, California. Davila attended the planting, along with Kevin Akers, project manager, Noe Fuentes, UVM technician, Ryan Galloway, UVM lead specialist, Miguel Garcia, UVM technician, Jeremy McGirr, account manager, Randy Mitchell, UVM technician, Kyle Mullane, UVM technician, and Corey Vonder Reith, project manager, alongside city of Del Mar, SDG&E volunteers, and government officials to plant and stake each tree. Davey's Talking Trees with Davey Tree Podcast to discuss the "Swing for the Trees" partnership and why reestablishing the tree canopy is important. Dan Joy, executive vice president & assistant to the president, threw the ceremonial first pitch, and Guardians' players answered tree-related questions on the scoreboard. Davey partnered with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tree Pittsburgh for an Arbor Day "Score for the Trees" planting. Pittsburgh's tree canopy increased by 39 trees, which were planted around the playground at Arsenal Park. These trees represent goals scored at home by the Pittsburgh Penguins, a total of 131 goals at home for the 2023-24 regular season. There were more than 60 volunteers, including employees from EC, DRG and the R/C services' East Pittsburgh office.
