19 May/June 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN 7 8: PHILADELPHIA-AREA OFFICES The North Philadelphia office's Shane Farrell, sales arborist (pictured), celebrated Arbor Day with Goodnoe Elementary School, located in Newtown, Pennsylvania. He talked with approximately 200 first and fifth grade students about the benefits of trees, the importance of caring for trees, and how to plant them. Each student was given an eastern red cedar seedling to take home with them. In Media, Pennsylvania, the King of Prussia office's Sean Murphy, foreman, and Erik Franklin, trimmer, volunteered at Penn-Del Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture's Arbor Day event at Tyler Arboretum. With other chapter members, they pruned trees along the Native Woodland Walk and Wister Rhododendron Garden and removed a declining Japanese scholar tree. 9: ROCHESTER OFFICE In Geneseo, New York on Arbor Day, Daniel Freund, trimmer (pictured), and Peter Gardner, foreman, replaced the tree known as the "Dr. Seuss Spruce" that had been located on State University of New York College at Geneseo's campus quad with a weeping Norway spruce tree sourced from the Davey Nursery. 7: NEW JERSEY OFFICE Maria Mazzola, PHC technician, Bryan Wartman, landscape foreman, and Jamie Whelan, sales arborist (pictured talking to the children), visited Unity Charter School in Morristown, New Jersey for an Arbor Day planting with kindergarteners and seventh graders. The kindergarteners asked questions and helped fill the hole for the October glory red maple tree they planted, while the seventh graders assisted with shoveling the soil. 11: SOUTHEAST NASHVILLE OFFICE Rob Kraker, district manager, (on the right), and Stephen McLaren, sales arborist, (on the left), set up a Davey "Ask the Arborist" booth at Rutherford County's Earth Day celebration in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They partnered with Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation and passed out nearly 500 seed packets. More than 700 saplings were given away at the event. 12: WICKES/ARBORISTS, A DAVEY COMPANY Jim Wickes, district manager, was a sponsor of Suffern Rotary Club's Arbor Day jack pine tree sapling give away event, held for the students at Suffern High School in Suffern, New York. John Wickes, business developer, Davey Business Development Team (pictured on the far right), packed and prepared saplings in preparation of the event with fellow members of the Suffern Rotary Club. 10 9 6: LONG ISLAND OFFICE Nick Bates, district manager, Peter Steiner, trimmer, and Aaron Zucker, sales arborist, (pictured talking to the kids), visited North Side Elementary School in Westbury, New York to plant a Japanese lilac tree with a third-grade class for Arbor Day. They also donated the book "I Can Name 50 Trees Today!" by Dr. Seuss to the class, along with Davey pencils and "I planted a tree today with Davey" stickers. 12 10: STAMFORD OFFICE Angel Perez, trimmer, and Henry Perez, foreman, volunteered on Arbor Day by pruning high-traffic areas at Camp Simmons for the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Connecticut, organized by Peter Orszulak, sales arborist. 8
