13 January/February 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN STEWARDSHIP Portland, Oregon office trimmers Annamaria Cervantes and Eli Dunn represented Davey as volunteers at Hoyt Arboretum's 36th annual event, "Arborists at the Arboretum." Hoyt Arboretum serves as a botanical garden for trees and is home to 2,300 tree species. Their annual arborist event includes volunteers from many tree care companies who come together for one day to improve the safety and accessibility of the arboretum for all visitors. "I really enjoyed working with other people and being in a setting that was so cool," Dunn said. "I liked getting to help make sure the area was clean and safe for the people who visit it. It was a really thrilling experience where I got to meet new people and learn new things." '' We wanted to plant a tree as a memorial for a family member who died by placing her ashes in the hole dug for the tree. In addition, we needed to have a dying tree removed, and I wanted a part of the trunk to remain as a plant holder. The crew that came to perform the work was outstanding. They understood exactly what needed to be done and were very respectful of the time we needed to place the ashes in the hole. From our meeting with Matt to the execution of the work, it was a great experience. '' Sue Seaglund, Rochester Hills, Michigan Residential/Commercial service's North Detroit office received high praise from a client, who requested the planting of a memorial tree with the use of their loved one's ashes. Sales arborist Matthew Peasley and the crew helped the client choose to plant a red maple tree, as she wanted foliage that would give a bright, red fall color to honor her sister. "We tried to make it as perfect as possible," Peasley said. "It was important the client was left feeling respected, pleased, and happy."
