21 July/August 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Chelsi Abbott, Natalie McNeill, and Gail Nozal all received a Green Industry Pros' 2023 Women in the Green Industry Award. The award aims to showcase women who are leaders in the green industry "whose achievements and success stories have helped move the needle for other women in the industry; promote safety, sustainability and workforce development; women who work toward advancing the green industry as a whole," according to the Green Industry Pros' website. Abbott is a technical advisor, Davey Institute; McNeill is an operations manager, Residential/ Commercial services; and Nozal is an area manager, Davey Resource Group, Environmental Consulting services. Congratulations, Chelsi, Natalie and Gail! Retiree Beth Buchanan received a 2023 Kent Environmental Council Edith Chase Conservation Award, presented at the Portage Park Foundation's 25th annual Environmental Conservation Awards dinner. The award is given to recognize an individual for their contribution to protecting and improving the environment. Congratulations, Beth! Jennifer Favela and Alexi Weber both became certified ecologists. This Ecological Society of America (ESA) certification establishes and verifies Favela and Weber's education, training, expertise, and skills as ecologists, as well as their adherence to the ESA Code of Ethics. This certification also serves to "foster the incorporation of ecological principles in the decision-making processes for consultancies, environmental and national resource agencies, applied research labs, government agencies and NGOs, foundations, and other organizations requiring the expertise of certified ecologists," according to the ESA's website. Favela is an environmental scientist, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company (WSSI), and Weber is assistant manager of environmental science, WSSI. Congratulations, Jennifer and Alexi! Ian Holcomb received the inaugural Kevin Kehoe Student Leader of the Year Award presented by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Foundation. Holcomb earned the award because he has "demonstrated strong leadership, has a passion for helping others and is an outstanding example to other students preparing for their careers in the industry," according to NALP's website. He is an intern, East Denver office, and a Michigan State University student, majoring in horticulture. Congratulations, Ian! Pictured second from left, Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate communications and strategic planning, and pictured on the far right, Pat Covey, Davey Chairman, President, and CEO, accepted the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio's (GSNEO) 2023 Advancing Women Award on behalf of Davey. The award was added in 2014 to "honor organizations demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing women in the workplace," according to GSNEO's website. Davey was recognized for initiatives focused on expanding the number of women in the green industry. Congratulations, Davey employees! Maria Tranguch won the women's division of the Southern Chapter International Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) 2023 Tree Climbing Championship, which was held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In August, Tranguch will represent the Southern Chapter ISA at the ISA's International Tree Climbing Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tranguch is an arborist skills trainer, Davey Institute.
