4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | March/April 2023 Q. WHAT IS DAVEY'S LONG-TERM PLAN FOR THE FUTURE OF THE COMPANY? are solutions-driven and in some way tied to one or more of our values. These initiatives are also determined by how much they benefit the three key stakeholder groups identified in the plan: employees, clients and shareholders. We firmly apply Davey's core values to ensure what we achieve through the strategic plan contributes directly to enriching and deepening Davey's culture, creating an environment for employees to grow and succeed, and making it easier to do business with us. Launching DaveyConnect, providing a consistent companywide onboarding experience, adding more robust training content to the Davey Learning Management System, and expanding our shareholder relations program are examples of just some of the recent initiatives we've accomplished through the strategic plan. Strategic planning is done at a high level, purposefully. Some field employees may find it hard to connect how what they do each day, week in and week out, relates to the long-term planning of the company. What's important for all our employees to know is that our core values are integral to the plan, as they should be in your daily lives. By living our values, we can help drive the company to where we want it to be: A company comprised of employees who care for each other, their clients and communities. Ultimately, if we all live our values and apply them to each day's tasks, then we will help fulfill those value-oriented goals in the strategic plan and achieve our long-term objectives as a company – continuing to be a growing, equitable, charitable, safe, and successful place to develop a career. What the plan does is coordinate our long-term strategy, in this case looking ahead to 2030, and determine at a high level where we want to steer the business. Our strategic plan is managed by our strategic leadership team, which includes the company's members of Davey's executive team and support team, who meet on a regular basis to discuss the plan's initiatives and progress. From a leadership standpoint, we take a tactical approach to managing the plan. We identify five to ten initiatives we want to achieve in a 10-to-12-month period. These projects are commonly goals we may not accomplish if not for focusing the strategic plan on them. Once a project is identified, the strategic leadership team assigns a point person who is accountable for moving that initiative forward. The strategic plan helps manage these types of initiatives, which are meaningful for the long-term objectives of the company, by providing a methodology for committing resources to and monitoring the progress of these projects. The end goal is for these projects to reach the point of completion and thus be taken out of the plan, so that new initiatives can be added. The strategic plan team uses the company's values, vision and mission to identify what projects get added to the plan. To do this, we look through the lens of the values to ensure we're focusing on initiatives that support safety, are done with integrity, that help us maintain our client focus, that ASK THE CEO Pat Covey Davey Chairman, President and CEO
