COAST-TO-COAST STORMS Record-setting snow and rain storms inundated Davey utility and residential clients this winter. In Buffalo in December, several feet of snow fell in a single storm creating snow drifts as tall as houses and causing power delivery and transportation issues. By the end of December, Buffalo recorded its third-highest snowfall amount in December in city history with a total 64.7 inches of snowfall. Turn to page 6 to see how our crews helped Buffalonians weather the storm. In California in January, seven separate atmospheric rivers made landfall in the Golden State. These storms brought with them wind gusts close to 100 mph in some areas and rainfall amounts that exceeded historical averages for the time period. In Sacramento alone, the city received 7.54 inches of rainfall in January – nearly double the 30-year average for the month. Turn to page 8 to read about how Davey Tree Surgery Company crews responded to the wet weather. ROOTED IN EDUCATION This Bulletin issue celebrates the 2023 class of the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences (D.I.T.S.). Our oldest and most prestigious training program, D.I.T.S. graduated its first class in 1909. This year, the ISA exam was held by lantern-light! Turn to page 16 to learn about this year's class. This issue continues our remembrance of our company founder, John Davey, who died in 1923. John had a passion for education. Turn to the back cover of this issue to learn some facts you might not know about John and his love of teaching and learning.
