4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2018 It's important because it impacts how safe we are. In order for everyone to go home safely, each one of us has to be diligent, aware and alert for opportunities to stop unsafe actions. It takes a lot of fortitude for you to say something when you see an unsafe situation unfolding, but it's very important and has a huge impact on how safe we are as a company. It is the reason we are putting so much emphasis on learning from close calls or near misses and reducing the occurance of unsafe activities. The bottom line is this: We put a lot of training, tools and effort into making sure everyone knows the correct and safe way to do things, but if we don't have people holding themselves accountable and taking ownership of it, we are not going to achieve our safety objectives. Additionally, personal accountability and taking pride in what we do impacts what our clients think of us. So much of excellent client experience comes down to personal accountability. Doing it right or not at all. Taking pride in our work and providing a valued service to our clients makes our work lives more fulfilling and builds loyalty in our clients. Finally, it's an important trait to have. I've always valued personal accountability in people, because it's a mark of a good leader. You can rise as high as you want here at Davey. There are no limits if you're willing to work hard, hold yourself accountable and be a good team player. Why does personal accountability matter to the CEO? I think about all 9,000 employees. I care personally for your well-being and how the company is perceived. I take that very seriously and personally. I'm proud of our company's reputation. But that reputation depends upon each person doing what they're supposed to do. The sum of our work creates this company, and personal accountability drives a lot of our success. Basically, you can't have a good, safe workforce with good client experience without it. CENTERPOINT ENERGY ACCOUNT Jose Saravia My compliments to the Davey workers who trimmed the trees from my power lines. The team was professional, cordial and safe performing their duties. A great job needs to be recognized. They work hard and somewhat dangerously for their money and deserve recognition. Deborah Burnett Tomball, Texas CORPORATE OFFICE The Madonio family thanks Davey for supporting the Dog Days of Summer 2018. Mother Nature gave us beautiful weather, which made for a perfect day in downtown Kent. We had about 4,000 people and 200 dogs attend. This year's event raised over $14,000 for the Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust. The trust proceeds support animal rescue groups and welfare causes. The Madonio Family Kent, Ohio CRYSTAL LAKE OFFICE Thank you for your help in removing the downed tree. The crew you sent was one of the best I have seen and went above and beyond in the tasks and cleanup. Please extend my sincere thanks to your team. Lutz Ehrlich Lake in the Hills, Illinois DAVEY RESOURCE GROUP Jesus Ramirez Jesus has excellent people skills, which he uses effectively. He is polite, respectful and knows his subject and rules.
