10 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2018 SPREADING MULCH AND TREE LOVE Tallahassee, Florida, celebrated the state's Arbor Day this year by planting 185 trees throughout Apalachee Regional Park. More than 100 volunteers stepped out to reconnect with nature and give back to their community with the gift of trees. After the trees were planted, six Wolf Tree, Inc., a Davey company, employees tended to the trees by properly mulching each tree. The Wolf Tree employees, George Trice, Jeff Teehee, Harold Robison, John Conley and Ronnie Ruth came out to the park on a cold and rainy Saturday to make sure the community would have these trees to enjoy for many years to come – now that's tree love! Community members celebrate Florida's Arbor Day by planting nearly 200 trees throughout a local Tallahassee park. FIELD NOTES PLANTING AN EYE IN THE SKY Rob Kruljac, assistant district manager, North Pittsburgh R/C office, helped the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania and PixController, a surveillance camera company, install two eagle cams to watch two nesting pairs of bald eagles in Hays and Harmarville, Pennsylvania, for educational purposes and public awareness. Kruljac didn't get to see the eagles while installing the camera. But, maybe that was a good thing. "I was hoping they would fly in, but at the same time I was hoping they wouldn't," Kruljac said. The sheer size of the nests impressed Kruljac. "I could picture me and five of my friends sitting in that thing," he said. "You feel very tiny when you are standing next to it." Kruljac said, of the two projects, the Harmarville project was the highlight simply because of the size of the tree he was climbing. "It's a specimen sycamore growing out of this valley," Kruljac said. "Just climbing that tree alone would have been an epic experience. But, adding the giant eagle's nest at the top of it made it even more wonderful." The eagles in Harmarville (top) are caring for two eaglets this year. The eagles in Hays are the proud parents of one eaglet this year. Both parents take turns sitting on the nest.
