32 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2018 William Bendix retired Feb. 25, 2018, following six years of service. Bendix was an equipment operator, Commercial Landscape Services. Harry Claypool retired April 29, 2018, following 40 years of service. He was vice president and general manager, U.S. Southern Utility operations. Claypool started in 1978 in the Akron office as a lawn care technician before later serving as district manager of the Canton and then Charlotte R/C offices. In 1998, Claypool transitioned to Eastern Utility services as regional manager, Mid-Atlantic. In 2005 he was promoted to vice president, Southern operations, and in 2015 he was promot- ed to senior vice president. In 2016, he was promoted to vice president and general manager, Southern Utility operations. He is a past member of the Davey President's Council and a graduate of Penn State University. Rick E. Corum retired March 11, 2018, following 34 years of service. Corum was a supervisor on the Sevier County Electric System account. Alan Finocchio retired April 1, 2018, after 33 years of service. He was regional vice president, western Utility, the Davey Tree Surgery Company. Finocchio started with Davey in 1984 as a climber on the PG&E account. He became a district foreman in 1993 and continued advancing through various levels of field management until he became operations manager in 2007. In 2013, he was promoted to regional vice president of Northern California for Utility services. He is a past recipient of the Outstanding Manager Award, a Best of Davey Leadership Award winner and past Davey President's Council member. Larry Harsha retired March 16, 2018, after 44 years of service. Harsha was a utility vegetation management specialist, Davey Resource Group. He joined Davey in 1974 as a groundman on the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) account. In 1984, he became a foreman and in 1992 transferred to the Public Service of Indiana account before returning to the NIPSCO account in 1998 as supervisor. Jim B. Lewis retired March 23, 2018, following 18 years of service. Lewis was a regional manager, Davey Resource Group. Kevin McBride retired March 30, 2018, following 20 years of service. McBride started with Davey in 1997. He served as assistant district manager of the Rochester office before being promoted to district manager of the Indianapolis office in 2006. David Schwandt retired March 11, 2018, following 4 years of service. Schwandt was a Plant Health Care technician in the North Chicago office. Daniel J. Scott retired April 1, 2018, following 3 years of service. Scott was a landscape foreman in the Rochester office. Shelia Lynn Wylie retired April 8, 2018, following 22 years of service. Wylie was a utility billing clerk for Wolf Tree, Inc., a Davey company. RETIREMENTS Harry Claypool Alan Finocchio Larry Harsha Spence Rosenfeld, founder of Arborguard Tree Specialists, passed away April 1, 2018. Rosenfeld joined Davey in 2017 as part of Arborguard's merger with the Davey company. "Spence started Arborguard in 1981 with a vision to provide natural solutions to problems between people and trees," said Jim Stief, executive vice president, U.S. Residential operations. "He carefully grew it into Spence Rosenfeld IN MEMORIAM a multi-million dollar venture with teams in Atlanta and Charlotte." Rosenfeld was a great supporter of the green industry in the Southeast, including serving as a founding member of the Metro Atlanta Landscape and Turf Association. In 2017 he received the Center for Urban Agriculture's 2017 Pioneer Award in recognition of his significant contributions to Georgia's urban agriculture industry.
