22 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2018 DAVEY RESOURCE GROUP, ARBORGUARD TEAM UP While Davey is a company with several different business segments and specialized expertise, it's when those pieces come together that the true mission of Davey shines through. When the city of Griffin, Georgia, approached Davey Resource Group (DRG) to conduct an updated tree survey, a collaboration with Arborguard Tree Specialists made perfect sense. Instead of calling in several DRG employees from different parts of the country, local Arborguard employees from the Atlanta office performed the bulk of the inventory. Though the city had an inventory done about 10 years ago, they decided that, for safety reasons, it was time to update it. "Using TreeKeeper ® we needed some training because we weren't as familiar with the software, but tree inventories are primarily what the construction and development team do here at Arborguard," said Dave Mitchell, sales and service coordinator for Arborguard. "So, we knew how to execute tree inventories prior to this project, but learning TreeKeeper was a cool addition to the process." TreeKeeper is a Davey created and proprietary software that allows clients to efficiently manage their urban forest and access the information from any location. It offers data collection and management services such as calculating and sharing tree values, recording citizen requests for service and information, tracking work history and cost for each tree, documenting location, species and other information. Altogether, the project took about a month to complete with about two-thirds of the on-site work performed by Arborguard and the rest by DRG. There were five employees working on-site on the project from the beginning of the inventory in late November through the end of the project in late December. In that time, the crews surveyed just over 9,000 trees in the city of Griffin. "It was cool being able to help each other out for the betterment of Davey, and I think there is plenty of room for more collaboration going forward," Mitchell said.
