6 percent above our plan, and that's on three months
weather-wise anybody in Ohio can appreciate."
While revenues remain strong, Covey said meeting staffing
needs remains a challenge. "The single biggest issue we
have is finding people," he said.
Covey said Davey has actively addressed recruiting and
retention needs by creating recruiting hubs, developed
to move recruiting personnel closer to field operations
teams, leveraging its online recruiting tool, Ed (employee
development), to create talent pools to draw from, and
emphasizing recruiting on social media to reach a
younger audience.
"We've done a number of things to put a bigger spotlight
on recruiting, engagement, training and retention," he said.
Davey has also done this by encouraging greater community
outreach, expertise building and technical innovation. To
do so, the company has broadened its programming and
content on social media and news outlets to highlight
employees who already excel in these efforts.
"We're measuring how much our employees give back to
the community," he said. "We're constantly sharing our
expertise through the media. We're promoting Davey as the
technical experts, the go-to people with regard to anything
and everything tree care related. It all feeds into building
brand support around corporate responsibility, and getting
employees invested in working for Davey as more than
just a job."
