FIELD NOTES
GIVING BACK TO THE
COMMUNITY
Davey's Kent-area offices have strengthened their giving
efforts for 2018 in support of the United Way of Portage
County, which provides administrative and monetary support
to educational, financial, health and nutritional programs
throughout the county.
In 2018, employees at the corporate and nearby Davey
offices pledged to donate more than $72,000, including
the company match, through payroll deduction to support
United Way programs. This year's donation is an increase of
26 percent over 2017, and a total 97 employees – 19 more
employees than last year – are taking part.
Kent-area offices support other United Way programs
throughout the year, including a holiday food drive, the Angel
Tree gifts program, a back-to-school supply drive and more.

donate to the United Way and support local programs.
GOLF OUTING SUPPORTS RED CROSS
Davey's summer golf outing has been a tradition for
employees for over 40 years. Corporate executives opted
to make the 2017 outing a fundraising event, with proceeds
going to the American Red Cross.
Davey's annual golf outing supported the Red Cross in 2017.
BARN MAY SEE REUSE IN KENT
Careful work is under way to prepare Davey's future East
Campus site for potential development.
Since buying the property at 6700 State Route 43 in Kent,
Davey has assessed and inventoried the assets on site.
As part of that assessment, Davey made the decision to
dismantle the old barn on site, which may date to the late
1800s, that had serious structural and liability issues.
However, the company decided not to destroy the structure,
but instead dismantle and preserve it, said Molly Senter,
Davey's property manager.
"Although we have no definitive plan for the structure,
we wanted to preserve it as best we could," Senter said.
Contractors preserved and catalogued the barn's timbers.
Holding the commemorative check are representatives
from Davey and the Red Cross, including: Michelle Polinko,
regional development officer (American Red Cross); Jack
McCabe, vice president and general manager, Davey
Resource Group Utility Vegetation Management and
American Red Cross board member; Pat Covey, Davey
president and CEO; Mike Parks, regional executive
(American Red Cross); Jorge Martinez, chief operating
officer (American Red Cross); and Richard Foote, Davey's
vice president of business development and client
services for Residential/Commercial Services and
organizer of the outing.
