31 November/December 2017 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Jim Zwack, general manager of the Davey Institute, was elected to the International Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) Nominating and Elections Committee. Zwack will serve a three-year term. The functions of the committee are to help fill out the slate of people who are needed for positions within ISA, such as the ISA board of directors. "This committee helps choose the leadership within the umbrella organization in our industry, so there is a measure of responsibility and influence associated with it," Zwack said. Congrats Jim! Mike Dombrowski accepted the National Association of Landscape Professionals Grand Award for his team's work on the landscape of Akron Children's Hospital. Read more about the award on page 12. Congrats! Rex Bastian, technical advisor, the Davey Institute, received a 2017 Award of Distinction from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). He was honored with the ISA's 2017 Award of Merit, the ISA's highest honor for outstanding service in advancing the principles, ideals and practices of arboriculture. Bastian received the award during the opening ceremony of the ISA's 93rd Annual International Conference and Trade Show. Congratulations Rex! Spence Rosenfeld, founder of Arborguard Tree Specialists, received the Center for Urban Agriculture's (UAC) 2017 Pioneer Award. "It was quite an honor to receive this award and a lot of my old friends and colleagues came out to be part of the event," Rosenfeld said. "I'd worked with many of them for over 30 years." Per UAC's website, this award recognizes "the significant contributions Rosenfeld has made to Georgia's urban agriculture industry through his business, philanthropy and industry leadership." Congratulations Spence! IN THE SPOTLIGHT Jose Rivera was named Arborist of the Year for 2017 by the New Jersey Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Rivera received the award for his work with the New Jersey ISA chapter and the Committee for the Advancement of Arboriculture to train workers in the tree care industry in New Jersey with an emphasis on reaching underserved minority communities, including industry workers whose primary language is Spanish. Congratulations Jose! Jim Neeser, business developer, Davey Resource Group, receives a Partners in Excellence Award from the Utility Arborists Association (UAA) on behalf of the Davey Company. The PiNE Award is bestowed to recognize and honor companies that have supported the UAA.
