Jim Zwack, general manager of the Davey
Institute, was elected to the International
Society of Arboriculture's (ISA) Nominating
and Elections Committee. Zwack will serve
a three-year term. The functions of the
committee are to help fill out the slate of
people who are needed for positions within
ISA, such as the ISA board of directors. "This
committee helps choose the leadership within
the umbrella organization in our industry,
so there is a measure of responsibility and
influence associated with it," Zwack said.

Mike Dombrowski accepted the
National Association of Landscape
Professionals Grand Award for his team's
work on the landscape of Akron Children's
Hospital. Read more about the award on
page 12. Congrats!
Rex Bastian, technical advisor, the Davey
Institute, received a 2017 Award of Distinction
from the International Society of Arboriculture
(ISA). He was honored with the ISA's 2017
Award of Merit, the ISA's highest honor
for outstanding service in advancing the
principles, ideals and practices of arboriculture.
Bastian received the award during the
opening ceremony of the ISA's 93rd Annual
International Conference and Trade Show.

Spence Rosenfeld, founder of Arborguard
Tree Specialists, received the Center for
Urban Agriculture's (UAC) 2017 Pioneer Award.
"It was quite an honor to receive this award
and a lot of my old friends and colleagues
came out to be part of the event," Rosenfeld
said. "I'd worked with many of them for over
30 years." Per UAC's website, this award
recognizes "the significant contributions
Rosenfeld has made to Georgia's urban
agriculture industry through his business,
philanthropy and industry leadership."

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Jose Rivera was named Arborist of the
Year for 2017 by the New Jersey Chapter
of the International Society of Arboriculture
(ISA). Rivera received the award for his
work with the New Jersey ISA chapter and
the Committee for the Advancement of
Arboriculture to train workers in the tree care
industry in New Jersey with an emphasis on
reaching underserved minority communities,
including industry workers whose primary
language is Spanish. Congratulations Jose!
Jim Neeser, business developer, Davey
Resource Group, receives a Partners in
Excellence Award from the Utility Arborists
Association (UAA) on behalf of the Davey
Company. The PiNE Award is bestowed to
recognize and honor companies that have
supported the UAA. Davey has long been
a supporter of the UAA and regularly has a
number of employees on the UAA volunteer
committees. Neeser received the award from
UAA President Craig Kelly and chair of the
PiNE committee Brandon Hughson. Congrats!
