DAVEY SPONSORS MULTIPLE TOUR DES TREES EVENTS
Riders in the 2017 Tour des Trees traveled 587 miles on
bicycles around Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia
while celebrating 25 years of the tour.
This year, the riders raised over $310,000 for the Tree
Research & Educational Endowment Fund (TREE Fund),
which helps with tree research, educational programs and
arboricultural scholarships.
Davey sponsored the ride and also purchased copies of
the children's book, "I Can Name 50 Trees Today!" to be
distributed during the 2017 Tour des Trees to young
observers as gifts from the TREE Fund.
The tour took place from Sunday, July 30, to Saturday,
Aug. 5. The tour included a trip to the Maryland Statehouse
Grounds for a Liberty Tree planting, a visit to Wetland
Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), a Davey company, a stop
at the American Horticultural Society's River Farm and more.
On Monday of the tour, a Liberty Tree clone of a tulip
poplar that once stood on the St. John's College Campus
in Annapolis gained new life on the Maryland
Statehouse Grounds.
Davey's Tom Wolf, vice president of client relations for
Utility services, said Davey helped make room for the new
tree by removing a tree that was in decline on the grounds.
Tulip poplars need a lot of space to grow, Wolf said. The
tree was planted in a 100-foot diameter area.

treated to a dinner with a program following to celebrate the new
and long-time riders.
"Joe Altemus, assistant superintendent of grounds for
the Maryland department of general services, did a great
job of making room for the new poplar tree," Wolf said.
"It turned out to be a very meaningful dedication."
Thursday, the riders took a trip to Gainesville, Virginia,
to have dinner at and tour WSSI.
Susanna Headly, office manager at WSSI, said it was
an opportunity to show the riders the green aspects
of the WSSI facility. After the dinner, a program was
