23 November/December 2017 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN "Our office collaborates with DRG about half a dozen times a year. Namely, we handle tree removals," Erway said. "This is a huge help for the client because it saves them from having to work with multiple companies, and the project manager on-site said that he really liked that." To remove the 47 trees, Clay assembled a three-man crew consisting of Dan Birkholz, groundman, Todd Lincoln, technician, and Pedro Miramontes, foreman. Some trees were dead or unhealthy while other trees looked OK. But because they grew on that steep slope, which had a history of landslides, most had to go. Five days later the 47 trees were gone, and the job had gone smoothly. The site was not clear cut, though. Trees that would reach a mature height of 20 feet, primarily vine maples and cascara trees, were preserved. "The client was very happy," Williams said. "They hadn't been working on the site for six months, which is a big financial setback for them. After Davey stepped in, they could begin work again, and they were very grateful." When our service lines collaborate and work together, we all win – including our clients! Above: The risk on this hillside was been mitigated by DRG, allowing the construction team to resume work. Below: Ruth Williams of Davey Resource Group inventoried the nearby trees before making her recommendations. Right: After completing the project, Williams revisits the site to see the construction progress made.
