The Davey Bulletin | September/October 2017
An American bald eagle has a
new lease on life thanks to Davey's
Utility services and one of its
clients, CenterPoint Energy, in
northwest Houston.
In February, a 17-year-old shot and
killed a bald eagle, prompting a
response from the local U.S. Fish
and Wildlife office. Wildlife officers
learned that an eaglet, between five
and six weeks old, remained in the
nest, and the other adult eagle was
not tending to the young bird.
"The nest itself was in the top of
a pine tree probably about 70 feet
up," said Brandon Freeman, account
manager, CenterPoint Energy account.
"Someone had contacted CenterPoint
and asked if they could assist, and

CenterPoint called us. It was obviously
a good cause, so we said we would
definitely do it."
Davey provided a climber, who scaled
the tree and rescued the abandoned
eaglet. The eaglet was dehydrated
and had not been fed, but wildlife
officers gave it fluids and took it to
the Wildlife Center of Texas in Houston
for treatment, local news station
KTRK reported.
The wildlife center has been caring for
hundreds of animals in the wake of
the historic flooding Houston suffered
during Hurricane Harvey. To support
the shelter's mission, you can make a
donation through their website at

This young eaglet
was just five to six
weeks old when
a Davey climber
rescued it from its
nest after its parent
had been killed.

As employee owners,
we take better care of
company equipment
because at the end of the
day that is money coming
out of our pockets. Am I
an employee owner? Yes,
of course. In fact, I wish
I would have bought stock
25 years ago when I first
started with Davey.
