What better place for Davey employees
to inspire New York City students
about green industry careers than
Central Park?

TEACHING INSPIRATION IN CENTRAL PARK
Central Park was the
perfect location for Green
Horizon's Career Day for
professionals to teach New
York City students about
arboriculture, horticulture
and urban forestry careers.
(DRG), and Andrew Hillman, project
developer, DRG, did so by volunteering
at the Environmental Education
Advisory Council of New York City's
annual Green Horizons career day.
Green Horizons is a free annual career
day offered to 200 middle school
students, primarily fifth and sixth
graders, from all participating schools
within New York's five boroughs.
"The kids get to spend all day outside
and meet people passionate about
their jobs," Behounek said.
During the event, students could
attend two out of 20 learning stations
centered around arboriculture,
horticulture and urban forestry. Hillman
taught one of those sessions by
showing students how to correctly
plant a tree.
Davey made a monetary donation to the
program in addition to Behounek and
Hillman's participation.
"It's important for Davey to be
thinking about the next generation
of arboricultural professionals,"
Behounek said.
Maier Tree & Lawn, a Davey company,
recently helped volunteers plant
200 trees in Rochester, Minnesota.
Employees of Maier Tree spent a
Saturday morning with volunteers
from RNeighbors, Rochester's
Neighborhood Resource Center, and
city employees. Maier Tree employees
Don Mueller, Allison Sellers and Marc
Sukke demonstrated the correct way
to plant a young tree, and then they
assisted groups of volunteers in
planting the 200 trees.
