The Davey Bulletin | March/April 2017
A Davey employee installs a lightning
protection system in a tree at Arlington.
Employees from The Care of Trees
(TCOT) Dulles Residential/Commercial
(R/C) office and Davey Northern Virgin-
ia R/C office gathered with hundreds
of other landscape professionals to
volunteer for Renewal and Remem-
brance, an annual day of service at
Arlington National Cemetery in Wash-
ington, D.C.
The National Association of Landscape
Professionals recently sponsored
and organized the event, during which
more than 400 industry professionals
cared for the turf, shrubs and trees.
Davey installed cable support systems
in several trees, and the TCOT office
volunteers installed lightning protec-
tion systems in multiple trees in the
cemetery.
Davey and TCOT performed the
much-needed work at no cost.
Employees from the TCOT office
were Mark Spieles, foreman, and
Tommy Tucker, groundman. Employees
from the Davey office included William
Arellano, trimmer, and Jose Arellano,
trimmer.

"
I thought employee
ownership was a great
way to look after my
future, as well as feeling
the rewards of my hard
work. When you learn how
this program transpired
and what it took for the
employees to take on that
task, I see it now as almost
a duty to continue that.
All the hard work and all
the hours you put in are
returned back, and that's
rewarding. You certainly
focus your attention to each
individual task more. You
pour more of yourself into
what you are doing.
