CANADA REDUCES ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT
The Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada,
Limited, saves truckloads of wood
each week from going into the landfill
thanks to a sustainable partnership
with Sawmill Sid Inc.
This green partnership began in the
summer of 2016, when Mike Gray,
district manager, Toronto West, agreed
to be the first tree care office to
deliver waste wood to Sawmill Sid's
5-acre mill.
"It's a very positive relationship," Gray
said. "It's nice to know the wood is
recycled and not going to the dump."
Rather, Sheila Storey and Sid Gendron,
the married couple who started
Sawmill Sid Inc. in 2014, repurpose
the wood into products like lumber,
beams, flooring, corporate gifts and
furniture – giving Ontario's valued
wood another life.
"Not only does donating the wood
save us money, but we are giving it
to a great organization," Gray said.
waste wood to the mill – inspiring
others in the industry to do the same.
"The Davey employees come in after
a long day happy and smiling," Storey
said. "Immediately, we fell in love with
the company."
Our green relationship doesn't stop
there. If you are on Twitter, you may

famous big green truck delivering

It's mutually beneficial relationships
like this that bring us one step closer
to the Davey Company's corporate
responsibility goal of 100 percent
recycled waste wood.
A simple trip to Sawmill Sid reduces
the Toronto West R/C office's
environmental carbon footprint
significantly. Specifically, the partner-
ship saves them time, fuel, money
and unnecessary wear and tear on
their Davey vehicles – while providing
a new life for cut wood.
In total, with all donated wood from
Davey and others in the industry,
Sawmill Sid has captured 2,257 tonnes
of carbon.
"Davey was our first tree company to
get involved," Sheila Storey said. Now,
three other Canada offices deliver their
Davey Tree
recycled more than
93 percent of its
wood waste in 2015.
