28 The Davey Bulletin | March/April 2017 SPOTLIGHT IN THE Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., celebrated its 25th anniversary in October. Over 250 employees and clients gathered at WSSI's Gainesville office for an evening of celebration in a casual atmosphere. "All of the departments at WSSI chipped in to make the event a success," said Roy Van Houten, director, environmental compliance for WSSI. The evening concluded with closing remarks from Mike Rolband, vice president of operations, WSSI. Congrats on 25 years! Davey's Corporate Communications and Marketing Department received four Tree Care Industry Association Professional Communications Awards in 2016 – more than any other tree care company. Davey won first place in four categories: Newsletter/Brochure for The Davey Bulletin, Social Media/Digital for the #Pics4Trees social media campaign, the Special Entry category for the 2016 Big Tree Calendar and Davey.com in the website category. Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate communications and strategic planning administration, accepts the awards from Peter Sortwell, TCIA board chair. Congrats to all the winners! Jason Gaskill has received the Greening Education Award from The Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH). The award recognizes individuals who display outstanding dedication and commitment to horticultural and greening education. The DCH works to promote a greener community by inspiring an appreciation and improvement of the environment through horticulture, education and conservation. Congratulations Jason! Both Sergio Lopez (left) and Mike Horneber (right) were recognized with a Tree Care Industry Association Professional Safety Award in the Outstanding Individual/Crew Performance category in 2016. Lopez, foreman for the San Francisco R/C office, helped save a woman from a burning apartment building using his bucket truck [see the full story in the November/December 2016 Bulletin]. Horneber, senior regional safety specialist, assisted an elderly couple who were involved in a vehicle crash. He rendered first-aid and helped until emergency personnel arrived. Together, Lopez and Horneber showcased their safety skills in times of desperate need. Congratulations!
