March/April 2017 | The Davey Bulletin 15 AN INCREDIBLE OFFICE VIEW The Niagara, Ontario, Residential/Com- mercial office employees experienced the breath-taking Niagara Falls as their daily office view for the summer of 2016. WildPlay, an adventure company, contacted Nich Spino, former district manager of the Niagara office and now district manager of the Burlington office, to complete a unique tree trimming project for the installation of the company's MistRider Zipline to the Falls. MistRider features four parallel zip lines, 200 feet in the air, overlooking the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Before tourists could hop on this thrill-seeking ride, Davey employees needed to prune all trees along the edge of the zip line within the vast Niagara River gorge. This challenging, eight-week project tested nearly the entire Niagara office. "It was a full team effort," said Mike Lenarcic, district manager of the Niagara office. Jordan Kripp, foreman, worked the duration of the project. "We had to prune a passage basically through all the forestry on the way to the falls," Kripp said. "It wasn't difficult. There was just a lot to do." Crews also conducted herbicide treatments on cut stumps to prevent re-growth of invasive trees and shrubs. As a reward for a job well-done, WildPlay's staff let Kripp and a few other Canada employees test-ride the zip line. "It was a lot of fun," Kripp said. Later that summer, WildPlay called Canada's Niagara office yet again to prune trees for their second attraction, the Wildplay Whirlpool Adventure Course. While pruning trees for this project, Kripp and his crewmembers could see from their bucket truck Maid of the Mist riders traveling in the rushing water below. When Kripp was asked what the most memorable part of the project was, without hesitation he answered: "The view."
