March/April 2017 | The Davey Bulletin 13
Davey recently supported the Hope
Always Lives On (HALO) Foundation's
annual Wings of Charity Gala to raise
money and awareness for the Flight
93 National Memorial near Shanksville,
Pennsylvania.
In support of the HALO Foundation's
mission, Davey donated 50 potted,
white pine trees as gala centerpieces
to honor the heroes of Flight 93.
After the gala, held in September, the
trees were planted in the recovering
disaster area of Clendenin, West
Virginia, to symbolize new growth and
new beginning. The Flight 93 National
Memorial's mission is to create a
"living memorial," and these donated
trees will become an extension of that
living memorial to honor the 40 heroes
of United Flight 93.
SUPPORTING THE
FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL
Davey recently sponsored Tree
Pittsburgh's 10th Anniversary
Celebration and Benefit Gala,
appropriately called the Root Ball.
The local Pittsburgh Residential/Com-
mercial offices and Davey Resource
Group have worked closely with Tree
Pittsburgh for many years completing
projects all around the city.
Representatives from our corporate
office, the local offices and DRG
also attended the Root Ball to show
Davey's support for the organization,
whose mission is to protect and
restore Pittsburgh's urban forest.
"Attending the Root Ball and showing
support from Davey, I think, was the
most beneficial part of the program,"
said Todd Sherbondy, district manager
of Davey's East Pittsburgh R/C office.
Davey has supported the annual
fundraiser since 2010. All proceeds
from the gala go to Tree Pittsburgh's
programs. The city has one of the
highest canopy coverage percentages
in the nation at 42 percent.
CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF TREE PITTSBURGH
Davey representatives from the corporate office, Davey Resource Group and the local Pittsburgh
R/C offices gather for a photo at the Root Ball, Tree Pittsburgh's annual fundraiser.
HALO Foundation volunteers care for the potted, white
pine trees Davey donated before they are planted.
