TREE SHADE IS NATURE'S SUNSCREEN
This year, Davey is emphasizing a tree
benefit that directly benefits our health
– the shade cast by a tree's canopy
that shelters us, and the environment,
from harsh UV rays. Yes, trees reduce
energy bills, clean our air and make our
world a more beautiful place, but they
are also nature's sunscreen.
Throughout the year, Davey represen-
tatives are carrying the message of
the Nature's Sunscreen campaign to
a variety of conferences and events
to promote the advantages of caring
for trees so that we can continue to
enjoy benefits such as shade. The goal
of the Nature's Sunscreen campaign
Atlanta in March, an Arbor Day event
at the Holden Arboretum in Cleveland
in April, the International Tree Climbing
Championship in San Antonio in
April and the International Society of
Arboriculture annual conference in
Forth Worth, Texas in August. Visitors
to the Davey booth can support the
campaign by signing a pledge to care
for their trees. In return, they get lots
of shade-oriented Davey swag – like
golf visors and sunscreen.
For each pledge received in 2016
Davey will donate $1 to the charitable
organization (or nonprofit) that best
suits each event.
SOCIAL HOUR
is to make people think about the
connection between their own health
and the health of their trees. A healthy
tree provides lots of shade, which
keeps us healthy by reducing rates of
skin cancer and other negative effects
of sun exposure.
Davey partnered with the Shade
Foundation, an organization that
teaches children how to protect
themselves from skin cancer, to further
strengthen the connection between
our health and the health of trees.
So far, the Nature's Sunscreen
campaign has educated visitors to
