DAY
ARBOR
Davey participates in the Great Ohio Planting Day each Arbor Day to keep the
state where our company was founded a beautiful place to call home.
This year, Keep Ohio Beautiful (KOB) chose the city of Alliance for its Gateway
Greening and Tree Planting project. Davey partnered with KOB, Keep Alliance
Beautiful (KAB), the Alliance Shade Tree Commission and the city of Alliance to
turn this dream project into a reality.
Karen Wise, division manager of Midwest Natural Resource Consulting for Davey
Resource Group, Herb Landmann, operations manager, and Davey crew members
worked four hours to turn a once plain Alliance thoroughfare into a tree-filled
gateway to the city.
"This part of Alliance became blighted over the years," Wise said.
The community, through KAB's Gateway Greening and Tree Planting project,
received a grant to remove blighted properties for future construction. The
community will also replace the weathered "Welcome to Alliance" sign with
a new one.
Davey and numerous community volunteers of all ages planted 28 trees and
shrubbery. The Davey employees who participated were Rick Hanshaw, branch
manager for the Wooster Nursery CLS office, Jason Garber, Jordan Hanshaw,
Alex Woody and Korry Bradshaw.
"We have received so many calls and messages about how thankful people are
that we chose to do something at that site," said Andrea Lee, coordinator of KOB.
"Our city, me as an affiliate and all other parties involved are so grateful we were
able to collaborate and make this project happen."
