"You know at Davey that safety's first. It's the most important
thing in the company. With new employees, we start by explaining
all the company safety rules and the manual. Then, we teach. We
start from the bottom, so we demo safety skills on the ground
first. Next, we have them work with the branches. When their
skills develop, we explain how to use the chipper and, finally, how
to climb. Before they start climbing, we teach them everything
from how to hold the chainsaw correctly to how to properly care
for the equipment."
