The Rochester, Minnesota, community got their daily dose of trees at the 14th Annual Arbor Day Celebration at Silver Lake Park. Maier Tree & Lawn, a Davey company, joined Rochester Public Utilities and Rochester Park & Recreation to put on this annual event to kick off the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) 2016 State Arbor Month Celebration. About 3,000 students, teachers and community members attended for a day of tree fun to celebrate a month dedicated to trees. Maier Tree sponsored three major parts of the event, including the Elementary Arbor Day Poster Contest and a tree climbing venture for the six poster contest winners. Maier also contributed 2,200 tree saplings to students and community members who attended. The difference this year? "We gave the kids a better experience in the tree," said Jay Maier, district manager of Maier Tree & Lawn. Instead of offering the tree climbing venture to all children at the park, Maier and his crew limited the climbing experience to the six overall poster contest winners. This allowed them to give each child a full climbing lesson from start to finish. Maier was joined by a number of volunteers from his office, including Ryan Brick, Eric Foley, Steve Hengel, Josh Jobes, Jim Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Taylor Kunkel, Don Mueller, and Jarred Robinson – all of whom made this event a success and taught the children the benefits of trees. Maier Tree employees donated 2,200 tree saplings to pass out at the 14th Annual Arbor Day Celebration in Rochester, Minnesota. MINNESOTA GETS A LARGE DOSE OF TREES 6 | July/August 2016 DAY ARBOR Hartney Greymont, a Davey company, devoted an entire day this Arbor Day for its Concord and Needham, Massachusetts, offices to do volunteer tree work. Each year, these offices' crews complete tree care for a new location within the community. This year's pick was a famous alley of sugar maple trees along Wellesley Street in Weston, Massachusetts. The crew, including Russell Holman, Derek Estabrooks and Justin Narbonne, pruned, cabled, mulched and fertilized trees and removed several liability trees. Hartney Greymont invited the general public to come watch the arborists work and celebrate Arbor Day. SUGAR MAPLES THRIVE WITH HARTNEY CARE Hartney Greymont employees from the Concord, Massachusetts, office pruned a number of sugar maple trees.
