March/April 2016 | 25 Davey helps Woodlawn prioritize tree care to preserve and protect monuments within the cemetery by clearing hazard limbs and trees. Davey provides tree care services at Woodlawn in addition to commercial landscape services and other care. Davey's National Business Development Team (NBDT) coordinates services for clients whose needs span regions, states and even parts of the country. The NBDT also works across Davey's service lines, when appropriate, to provide clients streamlined access to Davey's breadth of service, as is the case at Woodlawn Cemetery. Local offices that get requests from clients that require NBDT help can contact Don Winsett for more information at 954-303-3333. YOUR ROLE IN NATIONAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT to people, monuments, buildings and other elements of the grounds. Marasco then coordinates with Gregory Elliffe, district manager of The Care of Trees Mount Vernon, New York, R/C office to perform the tree maintenance. Mark Nielsen, Davey's Commercial Landscape Services manager for Woodlawn, started maintaining the grounds full-time in January and will bring crews on this spring. Andy Hillman, regional business developer for Davey Resource Group, helped the cemetery apply for and receive a grant from the state of New York for a tree inventory and risk assessment. Rose, who has worked in the cemetery business for 26 years, holds an associate degree in horticulture in addition to his business and mortuary science degrees. He says Davey's breadth of experience, knowledge and resources has helped create a balance between the tree and grounds maintenance. "One of the major reasons I went with Davey was expanding on synergies," Rose says. "Initially when you talk about out-sourcing, off the cuff, is it saves you money. I've advanced to a different perception where I've got the cost savings, but I want to take it to a different level and find greater synergies with my outsource partner." Marasco says he's enjoyed creating a comprehensive landscape management plan for Woodlawn. "Mitch understands that having this large, mature urban forest in the heart of the Bronx provides a lot of benefits to the surrounding community and is an attractive place for people to come and enjoy the space," Marasco says. "It's a peaceful, tranquil space right in the middle of the city. And he understands the trees are a big part of that. It's good working with somebody that gets that." Winsett says the partnership has proved rewarding on both sides because it has given Davey the opportunity to involve many of its service lines, and Woodlawn benefits through streamlined service and optimal landscape care. "For Davey, this partnership came about through developing a relationship, by building trust, and by listening to what Mitch's needs were," he says.
