SOCIAL HOUR
VOTING FOR TREES
At November's Partners in Community Forestry Conference, Davey's booth
doubled as a photo backdrop and a polling station.
Approximately 40 percent of conference attendees – nearly 500 total – visited
the booth to vote for one of three programs The Park People organizes to benefit
trees in Denver. Davey pledged to provide a monetary donation to the program
with the most votes.
A SPOOKY,
SUCCESSFUL
HALLOWEEN
Goblins, ghosts, and ghouls, oh my!
Davey employees got in the Halloween
spirit, dressed in exotic costumes,
and joined community members for
a night of fright, fun and candy.
The Parkrose Business Association
partnered with Historic Parkrose to
host its first Trunk or Treat event on
Halloween in Parkrose, Oregon. About
30 local businesses and organizations,
including Davey's Portland, Oregon
R/C office, attended to decorate their
vehicles and share candy with more
than 700 trick-or-treaters.
Terry Brier, district manager at the
Portland, Oregon R/C office and
member of the Parkrose Business
Association, and Wendy Peddicord,
client experience coordinator,
represented Davey at the event.
They dressed up as Beetlejuice and
a peacock, respectively.
"It was kind of amazing to see how
many kids were there," Brier says.
Terry Brier sports a spooky
Beetlejuice costume as he passes
out candy to more than 700
trick-or-treaters at Trunk or Treat.
When attendees approached corporate communications representatives
at Davey's booth, they used a giant ballot to vote for Denver Digs Trees,
Community Forester or Mile High Tree Champions and then smiled for a
photograph with their completed ballot. Davey published photos on Twitter
with one of three hashtags pertaining to the program of the attendee's choice
or "vote" – #DenverDigsTrees, #CommForester or #TreeChamps – to track
votes. The winner, Denver Digs Trees with 104 votes, received a $2,000
donation from Davey.
All tweets including the conference hashtag "#PCFDenver" were displayed
on a Tweet Wall visible at Davey's booth and during general sessions at the
conference. Approximately 1,000 total tweets including #PCFDenver reached
2.67 million Twitter users. And, because Davey received 201 votes for its donation
contest, about 20 percent of #PCFDenver content directly came from voters
participating in Davey's program.
@BobWest2: "I love how @DaveyTree engages tradeshow
attendees and creates low-cost content from a show booth with
these photos."
