INSIDE SECRETS TO BUILDING AN OUTSIDE BRAND 4 WAYS TO MAKE THE BEST FIRST IMPRESSION When it comes to aligning your exterior brand with your interior one, Davey National Sales Manager Rich Chilcoat explains why you may need more than the status quo. "Branding is important," says Rich. "If you want to be perceived as better, faster, stronger, then your exterior should show it. Even if your brand is more traditional than cutting edge, your landscape should still reflect who you want to be known as." PRECISION It's true: You never get a second chance at a first impression. When someone pulls up to your property, they immediately make up their mind about what you represent. Neatness and attention to detail are key. "Your exterior property says a lot about your quality, service, products and offerings," says Rich. "Immaculate landscape visually says 'We'll take really good care of you, too.'" COLOR Annuals, perennials and colorful shrubs show thoughtfulness; and people admire and appreciate thoughtfulness. In fact, it can make them want to do business with you. Color also reinforces brand. Says Rich, "Your visitors, customers, patients, employees, tenants and homeowners want to feel treated with respect. Beautiful, color-filled landscapes show that you'll do just that." SAFETY Even though you know your property is safe and secure, it doesn't mean your visitors do. "Make sure your visitors don't feel like they have to run just to get to your front door safely," says Rich. "Open up visibility by keeping tree branches away from lights. Eliminate blind spots and trim large, overgrown shrubs." PERSPECTIVE You may not be able to tell what you already have, or more importantly what you could have. In landscaping, fresh eyes and honest lips can reveal opportunities for improvement. "Get yourself a good wingman," says Rich. "A trusted advisor will not only give you the cold, hard truth about the state of your landscape, they'll also offer practical solutions for fixing it." 1 3 2 4
