Davey's Columbus R/C and CLS operations welcomed Hocking College wood utilization and landscape design build students to their office location for demonstrations last fall. Students had the opportunity to watch a 22-ton crane log lift and placement and a chipper in action, as well as see commercial landscaping equipment up close. Student visitors included Arbor Grant Scholarship winner and Columbus R/C intern Mason May, who received his award onsite. Davey's Tom Bowman, Robert Klein, Mark Svozil and Trey Webster attended as well. Conversations with Pros Idea submitted by: Angela Bova, office coordinator, Cleveland West CLS territory P asquale Monteleone, Jr., remembers feeling anxious, nervous and overall jittery before his first few professional interviews. "We've all been there," he says. Because Monteleone wants to help relieve those concerns of current high school students thinking about college and careers, he volunteers to conduct mock interviews with seniors at Independence High School in Ohio. Career Specialist Amy Hanratty organizes the mock interview program through the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center in Brecksville, where Davey performs landscape services. She invites local professionals to attend and ask students certain questions to reflect the format of a typical interview for a potential job. Monteleone, assistant branch manager of Davey's Cleveland West Commercial Landscape Services (CLS) territory, has volunteered for the program twice so far. "I really enjoy volunteering," he says. "It's great to give back to the kids, and it's a great recruiting tool, too. Those kids are growing up, and I can tell they respect Davey; I like that." March/April 2015 | 13
