T he Care of Trees and Davey have much to be proud of after their successes during last September's Illinois Tree Climbing Championship, a competition held by the Illinois Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). The Care of Trees (TCOT) won the Corporate Cup Tree Climbing Award and two TCOT participants placed in several different challenges. Foreman Brandon Dobnick placed Victory Achieved at the Illinois Tree Climbing Championship first in the throw line event, second in the belayed speed climb and third in the men's division overall, secured footlock and master's challenge events. Production Manager Sean Zieche placed third in the work climb event. Davey sponsored several of the champion- ship's events, including the work climb event, secured footlock, belayed speed climb, throw line and aerial rescue events. Davey and TCOT employees also served as judges for the events, including Rex Bastian, technical advisor at the Davey Institute; Geoff Watson, DRG project coordinator; Mike Priller, consulting utility forester; Brad Wise, South Chicago R/C assistant district manager; Don Roppolo, recruiter/trainer; Victor Torres, Northeast Chicago R/C foreman; and Eduardo Medina, recruiter/trainer. Foreman Cody Woelfle participated in the tree climbing competition in September at the British Columbia Tree Climbing Championship. Woelfle was accompanied by many enthusiastic employees from various Davey Canada offices. M undy Park in Coquitlam, British Columbia, was filled with Davey employees eager to judge and assist competitors at the British Columbia Tree Climbing Championship (BCTCC). The BCTCC invites climbers from the Pacific Northwest ISA Chapter to compete in a two-day event that challenges participants to a work climb, ascent and master challenges.
