The Big Picture News from Davey's corporate office. 26 | May/June 2014 D avey has announced its acquisition of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a leading natural and cultural resources consult- ing company that partners with private sector builders and public works agencies to gain local, state and federal approvals relating to wetlands, streams, forests and cultural resources. Wetland Studies' experts include scientists, regulatory specialists, engineers, permit compli- ance specialists, archaeologists, ecosystem managers, geographic information specialists and surveyors, all with multiple local, state and national certifications and accreditations. The company is headquartered in Virginia's first Gold certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility. Wetland Studies Founder and President Mike Rolband will continue to head operations for what will become a wholly-owned subsid- iary within Davey Resource Group (DRG). "With the addition of Wetland Studies, we have an opportunity to expand our natural resource consulting service operations by growing our presence in the Mid-Atlantic region and offering additional services to our clients throughout North America," says Brent Repenning, vice president and general manager of DRG. Rolband says both clients and employees benefit from the acquisition. "Our clients have asked us to expand our geographic reach to serve their needs, and now we will be able to respond with additional geographic, operational and research strength," he explains, "while continuing the same high quality work and customer service to which they've grown accustomed. Our entire team is staying in place and is now bolstered by the strength, expertise and depth of the Davey organization." For his employees, Rolband noted that Davey is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the U.S., and he cited the opportunity to participate in employee ownership at Davey as an important asset. "Employee ownership, coupled with the Davey commitment to employee training, as well as research and development, dovetails perfectly with our culture," he says. Wetland Studies' LEED Gold building will become the Mid-Atlantic regional headquarters for DRG. Repenning noted that the building proves Wetland Studies' commitment to sustainable green initiatives, resonating Davey's commitment to environmental stewardship. "Wetland Studies is a welcome addition to Davey," Repenning says. "We are truly excited about the possibilities that can be realized by combining our organizations." Happily Rooted in Kent Home, sweet home. Davey's Nick Sucic, vice president and controller, joined representa- tives from AMETEK, Kent Displays, Inc. and Smithers-Oasis Company at Kent State University's 2014 Spring Bowman Breakfast to illustrate the local and global impacts Kent, Ohio, businesses have made since their begin- nings in the small, Northeastern Ohio college town. Sucic instigated sporadic chuckles from the crowd as he incorporated his many personal experiences in Kent within a synopsis of Davey's long history in the town. He reminded nearly 300 attendees about Davey's nationwide footprint that extends into Canada, as well as the unique concept of employee ownership the company adopted 35 years ago. Sucic also outlined several community projects and partnerships with which Davey's local employees have worked on in Kent. Davey's Natural Resource Consulting Services Expand
