The Big Picture

I
t was a blast from the past and a glimpse
into the future. Approximately 300 attendees
listened to Davey's employee ownership story
during the morning keynote session at the
annual Ohio Employee Ownership Conference
in Fairlawn, Ohio. During his presentation,
Karl Warnke, Davey's chairman, president
and CEO, shared the company's 35-year
history of employee ownership, a milestone
for which the company received an award
at the conference. As the seventh-largest 100
percent employee-owned company in the
U.S.—and the largest employee-owned
service firm company in the U.S.—Davey
has earned much respect and recognition
within the employee ownership community.
Upon concluding his presentation, Warnke
encouraged attendees, particularly those
interesting in becoming employee owned,
to "Stay the course"—because employee
ownership is a positive, valuable and
worthy endeavor.
In June, five new members joined The Davey
Tree Expert Company's President's Council
for its first meeting this year. Natascha
Batchelor, Ray Betz, Mark Calko, Chris
Deathe and James Hartzell will now

collaborate with existing members John Arico,
Ray Hannebique, Scott Heim, Scott Hyland,
Mike Mittiga, Kevin Peters and Blane Pshigoda
to determine recommended solutions for
the benefit of the company. From operations
overviews and corporate presentations to
standing committee reports and company
updates, the council's packed schedule kept
them focused on fresh ideas and many
future opportunities.
