he infamous Disneyland was modeled
after the Children's Fairyland Park in
Oakland. It may be hard to imagine that a park
like that would lose any of its magic, but when
Davey's San Francisco and East Bay R/C
offices heard this was happening, they set out
to spruce up the park and bring that magic back.
Crews from Davey, along with the Western
Chapter of the ISA and the Britton Fund,
spent a weekend in March assessing and
pruning the park's trees. The weekend was
part of the ninth annual Volunteer Work Day
& Arbor Camp.
Eight employees from Davey spent the
first day at Fairyland assessing the existing tree
trunks for decay using a resistance drill. The
following day, Davey's crew began safety
pruning. Sales Arborist Nick Crawford was

The Care of Trees' Elmsford office spent
Arbor Day with students of Eastview Middle

The Care of Trees' Elmsford crew, which
included District Manager Pat Laidman,
Foremen Cuca Mojica and Lenny Della Badia
and Trimmer Julian Naulaguari, partnered with
the White Plains Beautification Foundation to
plant three American dogwood trees.
The Arbor Day celebration included a
ceremony with chorus and band performances,
and students recited poems in honor of the day.
"The students were enthused," Laidman says,
