Expanding Educational Horizons 12 | March/April 2014 Jack Swayze, district manager of Davey's South Houston R/C office, accompanies Daniel Finch, Arbor Grant Scholarship recipient from Steven Austin State University, and Joe Shaw, Recruiter/Trainer (pictured left to right). Bryce Crunkilton (left) receives an Arbor Grant Scholarship from Don Roppolo at Mid-State Technical College. D avey's recruiter/trainers were on the road again this fall. More than 40 students from colleges and universities across the U.S. received Arbor Grant Scholarships from the Davey Foundation in 2013. All winners receive a $1,000 grant they can apply toward their education in horticul- tural or arboricultural fields. "Receiving the Arbor Grant has been, once again, a huge motivator toward completing my education and potentially beginning an exciting career with Davey," says Bryce Crunkilton, a two-time Arbor Grant Scholarship winner and the 2013 overall third place winner in the collegiate men's division for the TCIA Student Career Days tree climbing competition. Crunkilton also completed an internship with Davey at the South Minneapolis office. Although Crunkilton received his Arbor Grant Scholarship from Recruiter/Trainer Don Roppolo in person, as did several other out-of-state winners, Davey's recruiter/trainers cannot visit every winner on their campus. "We try our best to deliver as many scholarships personally as we can," Recruiter/Trainer Coordinator Mark Noark explains.
