THE DAVEY BULLETIN
MANY CLIENTS, ONE GOAL
Rich Wiland has many clients to keep happy when it comes
to the condition of their trees. But one account in particular
offers a unique opportunity to please many tree lovers
through a single client.
Wiland, district manager of the Naples Residential/Commer-
cial services offi ce, holds a contract with the city of Naples
for pruning hardwoods along streets throughout the city.
Although the city is technically the client, as it is responsible
for trees in the municipal right-of-way, he views all the
homeowners as Davey's clients, too.
"We always try to keep the city forester happy," Wiland said.
"But she gets her feedback from the residents because it
is taxpayer money. If someone comes out with concerns or
requests, she handles it well. If a resident wants to keep a
tree or has a question, she reaches out to me to get input on
how to best handle the situation."
Wiland often coordinates with Ethan Jaques, foreman and
ISA Certifi ed Arborist®, who regularly supervises the city
tree work and can at times interact directly with residents
when a tree receiving care is located in front of their home.
"We have a group text every morning that includes the city
forester, Ethan and myself, so we can keep in touch," Wiland
said.
The offi ce is particularly proud of the royal poincianas they
care for, of which there are about 300 citywide. Wiland
said the trees are in overall good health and are particularly
beautiful when fl owering in the spring.
