6 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | September/October 2026 MISSION DTE ENERGY CREWS GO ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR CLIENTS This year, DTE Energy crews have received an infl ux of positive client letters about employees who consistently go above and beyond on the job, and crew members attribute this to the team taking THE CREW'S WORK: After a storm hit Detroit July Fourth weekend, Bruce Bewak, Jourdain Dupree and Brennan Shelton arrived at a home to trim trees that were arching into primary power lines and causing the secondary power lines to touch each other. The client's service wire was also engulfed with trees and vines. The homeowner was worried the vines and trees on her property were going to cause her to lose power in the future, so the crew went ahead and made sure the primary and secondary power lines were clear of trees and debris. They also made sure the homeowner had more than enough clearance on her service wire to give her peace of mind. "I am very proud of the crews' work that evening," Bruce Bewak, foreman, DTE Energy account, Eastern Utility, said. "With the long hours, it can be diffi cult at times to fi nd the energy and patience to go above and beyond. While having a younger crew that day, Jourdain and Brennan did a phenomenal job and hopefully received the self-gratitude of knowing that we did the right thing by making sure the customer's stress levels were at ease from the quality work we had done." THE CLIENT'S EXPERIENCE: I would like to acknowledge the good customer service that I received from three of your Davey employees. They were wonderful and went above and beyond. I was so concerned because I saw sparks fl ying, and it sounded like gunshots when we had our storm damage. They not only trimmed the trees that were close to the power lines, but they also trimmed the ones that were hanging on the power line con- nected to my house. They trimmed the ones in the alley, and they made me feel safe, and I just really appreciated that. Ms. Mason Detroit, Michigan pride in everything they do. Here are two of these examples and the behind-the-scenes from the crew's perspective. Do you have a similar story? Email it to bulletin@davey.com. THE CREW'S WORK: When Denny Dunn, Jeff Lay and Justen Richards arrived at a client's home to trim branches away from utility lines, they noticed a tree swing was in one of the trees they needed to work on. While inspecting the tree, they realized that the swing was not placed on a dominant part of the tree, and it was just a matter of time until the branch holding it would break or the rope would slide down the branch it was tied to. So, the crew spoke with the homeowner about these potential hazards and offered to relocate the swing to a dominate section of the tree while trimming the hazardous branches away from powerlines. "We felt it was a must to relocate the swing because we all have children, and some of us have grandchildren, and to leave the hazard there while we would be up in the tree anyway was not sitting well with our conscious," Jeff Lay, foreman, DTE Energy account, Eastern Utility, said. "This shows that we as Davey employees are not just on a job for a paycheck and that we care about the health and safety of our clients and their children." THE CLIENT'S EXPERIENCE: Your employees visited my home and were both extremely polite and thoughtful. One of your crew members went above and beyond to preserve a tree swing that I had hung in one of the trees they were trimming. He made somechanges to the confi guration based on some safety concerns he observed. They also did a great job of cleaning up before they left. I just wanted to give these young men someaccolades for their professionalism, care and commu- nication. Their work left an impression. Michael Craig Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan Jeff Lay, foreman; Denny Dunn, trimmer; and Justen Richards, trimmer, went above and beyond to keep a client's children safe. Jourdain Dupree, trimmer, and Bruce Bewak, foreman (left to right); trimmer, pruned multiple trees away from powerlines. Brennan Shelton, (not pictured) also assisted.
